Yandex Cloud has reported a large outage after a drone attack damaged one of its data centers. According to the company's status page, the data center in Vladimir has stopped operating completely. Yandex says there were no casualties and that the relevant services are on site dealing with the consequences.

The first notice came on October 11 at 6:41 AM (GMT+5:30). It said only that some Yandex Cloud zones were unavailable. About two hours later, Yandex said the cause was a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) attack that damaged the Vladimir data center's infrastructure.

Yandex described the rest of its resource setup as unstable and said the platform was running in emergency mode. It told customers to use any alternative disaster recovery plans they had. It also said support channels might be unstable and that information on the status board could appear with a delay.

The list of affected services on the status page is very long. It covers core products such as Compute Cloud, Object Storage, Virtual Private Cloud and Identity and Access Management. It also lists managed databases, Kubernetes, monitoring, AI and speech tools, and many others.

Recovery was gradual through the day. By the 11:25 AM update, the Cloud Console and API were available, and Compute was partly available. Most high-availability database clusters had switched over to other locations, though some might be read-only or unavailable. Yandex described S3, its object storage, as readable but with possible problems writing data.

By 1:44 PM, the picture had improved a little. Managed databases were available, though Managed Service for Apache Kafka still had difficulties. S3 was available for reading and writing, possibly more slowly than usual. Managed Service for Kubernetes was available, but some individual clusters might still have problems. Container Registry was operational, and Yandex AI Studio and security services were partly available. Yandex Monium stayed unavailable.

In the latest update, at 3:42 PM, Yandex said service availability was unchanged and that teams were working around the clock. Technical support channels were only partly restored, and replies may be significantly delayed. Requests for quota increases, which let customers add more cloud resources, remain suspended.

Yandex said the next update would come on October 11 at 18:00 Moscow time (UTC+3).
