A new website called WallHop lets people open news articles that sit behind a paywall. You paste a link, and the site shows you the story. It says there is no signup.
The title suggests it was made to fill the gap left by 12ft.io, a similar service.
WallHop's page lists a few ways to use it. The simplest is to put wallhop.io/ in front of any article address. There is also an iPhone Shortcut, which lets you send an article to the site from the Share button.
The site also offers a bookmarklet. That is a small button you drag to your browser's bookmarks bar and click when you want to open the page you are on through WallHop. For people who work with code, there are also /raw and /api options. Their exact output has not been tested or described in the source material.
The site adds a note about the people behind the news. It says paywalls pay for journalism, and that readers should subscribe to any paper or news site they read every day. WallHop, it says, is meant for the one-off article someone texts you from a site you will never visit again.
