A new website called Unfenced lets people search for land for sale that borders public land. It says it found 13,626 such properties out of 695,439 active listings across 49 regions.
The site says it did not rely on listing descriptions. Instead, it measured each claim from parcel boundaries and checked them against USGS PAD-US, a national database of protected and public land. PAD-US stands for Protected Areas Database of the United States.
Unfenced is a project of Other Waters Studio, a design studio in Philadelphia. Visitors can enter a ZIP code to find land within 100 miles, browse by state, or open a map centered on where they are. On the map, hovering over a state shows what has been measured there, and clicking shows its properties.
The site highlights a few current listings. One is a 120-acre parcel on Savage Creek Rd in Grants Pass, Oregon, listed at $90,000. It shares 5,240 feet of measured boundary with the Medford Grants Pass Field Office land. Parcel data comes from Realie, and the satellite imagery comes from The USGS National Map.
The other examples are smaller. A 24-acre property on Dennett Creek Rd in Weiser, Idaho, is listed at $75,000 and has 131 feet of measured boundary with the Four Rivers Field Office. A 20-acre parcel on Hillsboro Lake Rd in Hillsboro, Georgia, is listed at $171,000 and touches the Oconee National Forest for 593 feet. A 40-acre parcel in Ephrata, Washington, is listed at $85,000 and borders Gloyd Seeps for 652 feet.
The site's counts are current as of Oct 12, 2026, and it says they are refreshed about every week. There are currently no properties in DC or North Dakota. Colorado has the most measured properties at 1,396, followed by California with 836, Utah with 645, Arizona with 642 and Washington with 638.
