The developer of Nitter, an alternative way to view X, says the project currently has no legal counsel. In an update dated October 10th, he asked lawyers, organizations and anyone else who can help to get in touch.

According to the update, X Corp. sent cease and desist letters on 24 August 2026. They demanded a permanent takedown of Nitter instances and of the project's repository, which is the place where its code is stored. A second letter followed on 8 September 2026 with the same demands and legal threats.

The developer also corrected an earlier statement. His September 7th update said the project would continue with legal representation in place. He now says that was based on assurances he received and believed, which have since turned out to be untrue. He apologized for the misleading information.

He says he is seeking funding and legal help to fight for the future of Nitter. He gave an email address, zedeus@pm.me, and a chat handle, @zedeus:nolog.chat, for anyone who wants to contact him. He says any further news will be posted on the same page.

The update also explains how donations would be used. Money goes first toward legal costs, if they are needed. Anything not needed for that would support his work on Nitter or its successor.
