Google DeepMind and Google Cloud say they will give up to 200 top European scientific researchers direct access to their frontier models. The pledge also includes $3 million in compute credits. The announcement comes from Google Cloud's Vice President for the UK, Ireland and Sub-Saharan Africa, Maureen Costello.
Compute credits are prepaid computing power. Researchers can use them to run heavy calculations without paying for that capacity themselves.
Through the pledge, researchers will get access to several of Google's scientific tools. These include AlphaFold 3, WeatherNext, AlphaGenome, AlphaEvolve and AlphaEarth Foundations.
Google says the commitment supports the European Union's AI for Science work. Some of its frontier models will be made available through the RAISE initiative. According to Google, RAISE aims to help close the compute gap that European scientists sometimes face.
Google says the effort is meant to speed up European innovation and strengthen the continent's scientific competitiveness. It says researchers will be better placed to take on complex problems faster, from predicting extreme weather to mapping molecular structures.
The details come from Google's own announcement.
