Google CEO Sundar Pichai has given the public an early preview of Gemini 4 Argon, the company's next major artificial intelligence model, ahead of a full release.

In a statement addressing what he described as widespread speculation about Google's upcoming model, Pichai said he wanted to share details "as soon as possible." He described Argon as delivering frontier-level performance in complex workflows, cyber defense and software engineering.

According to Pichai, teams inside Google are already using Argon extensively, applying it to tasks ranging from software coding to quantum computing research, with what he called strong internal feedback.

Pichai emphasized that the model is being released cautiously. He said Argon includes what he termed "frontier safeguards" and that Google is rolling it out responsibly. As part of that rollout, the model has been made available to the US government and to a select group of trusted cyber defenders through Google's Fairwind Program, starting today.

Pichai did not provide a timeline for a broader public launch, saying only that Google intends to make Argon available "as soon as we can and as safely as we can." He added that further updates and rapid iteration on the model should be expected in the coming weeks.

The announcement follows a pattern seen with previous major AI releases, in which developers first share models with government partners and vetted specialists before expanding access. Google has not yet detailed specific capabilities, benchmark results, or a consumer release date for Argon.
